Where can you go to find great food and drink while having unparalleled views at 10,7000 feet? Treat yourself to the Sunspot Mountaintop Lodge at Winter Park Resort this winter. Located above the gondola, the Sunspot lodge has incredible panoramic views of the Continental Divide and Arapaho National Forest.
Take a scenic gondola ride to the top of the mountain with a three-course dinner featuring local Colorado specialties like Elk Tournedos, Buffalo Ribeye, and my personal favorite, the Rocky Mountain Rainbow Trout. Dinner is served Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Be sure to make a reservation as space may fill up.
Accessing the gondola to enjoy the 360 degree beautiful mountain views is easy. Simply park at the garage located in the Village at Winter Park Resort (free after 3:00 p.m. and is the closest parking available to access the gondola). Take a lovely stroll through the Village where you will check in at the base of the gondola. Kids are always welcome, however it should be noted the dining experience is about two hours in length, so it may be more suited for older children.
Other options to enjoy the Sunspot Mountaintop Lodge for coffee and then lunch starting at 11 a.m. When skiing Winter Park or Mary Jane, take a lunch break to refuel during your powder day. Selections from soups, salad, pizza, grab-and-go, a la carte, and a full service bar make a convenient pit stop for your day out on the slope. I dare you to try the French Dip with au jous. It will have your mouth watering with goodness.
The après ski scene is also a breathtaking experience to endure. Adirondack chairs are perfectly placed to have you gazing at the alpenglow on the Continental Divide. Cozy up with a beverage and a small plate from 3 to 5 p.m. Live music will be jamming out to complete the après scene on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
