All Aboard the Winter Park Express

March 4, 2025

We all love visiting Colorado's legendary ski resorts. What we don't love is the drive to the resorts. Looking to visit Winter Park this ski season but wanting to skip the traffic? Consider taking the Winter Park Express!

Amtrak's Winter Park Express, which is nicknamed the "Ski Train," is a great, hassle-free way to travel from Denver to Winter Park. Service typically begins in late December and continues until the end of March. It is a valuable resource to skiers, easing travel in many ways!

The Amtrak Winter Park Express train rides are so helpful that other ski resorts may be getting rail lines in the (hopefully) near future.

The train rides are schedule to maximize your day on the ski slopes. You can ride into Winter Park in the morning, just in time for the first runs of the day, and ride out as the slopes are closing. Furthermore, the train drops you right by the slopes! Don your gear so you're ready to ski as soon as you arrive.

Boarding is simple, the staff is helpful, and there is plenty of storage on board. Each passenger can bring two carry-ons and a personal item. Bring your skis or snowboard as one of your carry-on items! You'll have plenty of seating options too. All of the seats on the ski train are coach, so hop on and pick whatever seat you'd like.

Another advantage of the ski train is the scenery! We recommend grabbing a window seat so you can watch as the gorgeous, snowy landscape passes outside of the train. You'll be amazed by the beauty as you head into rugged Winter Park. For an extra special view, head to the lounge car, which features domed windows on top of the cart in addition to the windows on the sides.

Train rides are about two hours long. You can enjoy the ride in comfort, relaxing with a hot beverage from the dining car and taking in the landscape!

An additional stop is now included at Fraser, Colorado. In Fraser, riders can check out the Cozens Ranch Museum or sample local cuisine. It is a fun pit stop for nature-lovers!

Tickets for the ski train are surprisingly affordable. Fares for the two-hour ride start at $19, but the price differs depending on the date.
